How do I keep going in a career of being judged and passed over?

You can nail almost any audition, and still the years of walking into rooms to be judged and passed over have worn a groove in you. That tiredness is earned. A career built on other people's constant yes-or-no is one of the hardest ways to make a living, and being good at it does not make it hurt less. But look at what the judgment has and has not touched. It has worn your patience and your hope, sure. What it has not taken is the skill, or the reason you started. You did not become an artist to be chosen. You became one because something in the work is yours, and no room full of people saying no can reach that part unless you hand it to them. So stop handing it over. So separate your worth from the verdict, out loud and on purpose. Keep a record of the work you are proud of, not the parts you won. Do some acting that no one gets to judge. And find the few peers who understand this life, because carrying it alone is what wears people down fastest. You have survived a hard road. Make sure the reason you walked it does not get lost in the tally of nos.
