How do I keep going when the system keeps failing my students?

You have given years to the students most likely to be overlooked. You love the work, and you are tired of fighting for every hour, every aide, every dollar the system should have handed you freely. Both of those things are true at once, and holding them is exhausting. Here is what is worth remembering: the fight and the love are not the same thing, even though they wear you down together. The system will keep being slow and stingy; that is largely outside your control. What is inside your control is the reach of one child's day because you showed up ready. Do not let the battle over resources convince you the teaching itself is failing. It is not. You cannot pour from an empty cup for these kids if the fighting drains it all. So protect a little. Pick the battles that actually move a resource, and let some of the smaller ones go. Guard one evening a week that belongs to you. You will fight better and love longer if you stop trying to win every skirmish at once.
