How do I know if a life of hard farm labor was worth it?

You can run any machine on the place, and now you're asking what all these years of labor actually built. That's a fair question to sit with, and asking it doesn't mean the answer is nothing. It means you're taking an honest look at a life's work. What you built isn't only in what you can point to. It's in the food that came off this land, the seasons you carried people through, the skill in your hands that few will ever have. Some of what you made is invisible now because it fed others and moved on. That's not the same as wasted. Sit down and name three concrete things this life produced, things that wouldn't exist without your work. Don't rush it. Seeing them plainly answers the question better than any feeling. A life of this labor built more than the doubt will let you see at first glance.
