How do I know if my skill means anything beyond my shift?
You can cook almost anything to perfection, and still you wonder whether all that skill amounts to anything once the shift ends and the plates are cleared. That question is heavy, and it is not really about cooking. It is about whether work that vanishes as soon as it is done can still matter. The meal does disappear. But what it did while it lasted does not. You fed people, gave them a moment of comfort or joy, marked their celebrations and softened their hard days. That it did not last forever does not mean it was nothing. Most of the best things in a life are like that: real while they happen, then gone, and worth it anyway. When the doubt rises, remember one specific person your food reached, not the abstract question of legacy. A meal is a small kindness repeated thousands of times, and kindness does not have to be permanent to be real. Your skill lands in people, not in monuments. Let that be enough, because it truly is.
