How do I lead my people beyond just the mission?

Leading your people through the mission is one thing. Leading them as whole human beings, with lives and fears and problems, is another, and it can feel like more than you signed up for. That overwhelm is honest. Caring for people is heavier than directing tasks. Here is what can ease it: you are not meant to solve everyone's life. Your job is not to fix your people. It is to know them, to notice when something is wrong, and to point them toward help when they need more than you can give. A good leader is a bridge, not a rescuer. Start with one small habit: actually check in with your people, one at a time, and listen more than you talk. You will learn who needs what. You do not have to carry all of it alone, and you were never supposed to. Lead them by seeing them. That is most of what they need from you.
