How do I lead when I feel anxious behind my confidence?
You show your team a confidence you do not always feel, and holding that front up while the anxiety runs behind it is draining you. You are not even sure who you are leading as anymore, the calm face or the worried person underneath. That split is heavier than the work itself. Here is something worth knowing. Real confidence is not the absence of doubt, it is acting well while the doubt is present. Every leader feels the gap you feel. The exhausting part is not the doubt, it is the belief that you have to hide it completely, that any crack will undo you. You do not have to broadcast every worry, but you can let a little truth through. Say I do not have all the answers, but here is how we will find them. That is honest and steadying at once. Leading as a whole person, doubts and all, costs far less than performing a certainty you do not feel. Let the front soften. It will hold better for it.
