How do I organize a whole product so people can find things?

Laying out one page is a contained task. Organizing a whole product is a different kind of thinking, and it is normal to feel lost when you first step up to it. A page is about arrangement. A whole product is about how a person's mind moves from one need to the next. That is harder because it lives in other people's heads, not on your screen. The secret is to stop starting from the product and start from the person. What are they trying to do, and in what order do they think of it? Good structure follows how people actually look for things, not how the company is organized inside. When you match their mental path, finding things feels obvious. Take one real task a user has and write down, in plain words, the steps they would take to get it done. That path is your map. Build the structure around it. Do this for a few key tasks and the shape of the whole product starts to appear.
