How do I own strategic decisions I can't prove are right?
You make big bets in the fog, and then you have to stand behind them without being able to prove they were right. That is genuinely hard, and it is the loneliest part of strategy. Everyone sees the decision; no one can see the future that would justify it. You carry the exposure without the certainty. But here is what to hold onto: a good decision and a good outcome are not the same thing. Under deep uncertainty, the most you can do is reason well with what you know, weigh the odds honestly, and choose. The outcome depends on forces no one controls. Owning a bet does not mean guaranteeing it works. It means standing behind the quality of your thinking, whatever the dice do. Separate the two in your own mind, and judge yourself on the process, not just the result. When you own a call, own it this way: here was my reasoning, here was what I could not know, and I chose as well as I could. That is a defensible thing to stand on even when a bet does not pay off. Sound judgment under uncertainty is all anyone can offer, and it is enough to own with your head up.
