How do I react faster to danger on the road?
You feel like you catch the dangerous things a beat too late, seeing the risk only after it is nearly on you. That lag is frightening, because on the road a beat is a lot. But slow reaction is usually not slow reflexes. It is late noticing. You are seeing the danger once it has fully formed, when the skill is to see it while it is still forming. The drivers who seem to react fast are not quicker of hand. They are looking further ahead. They read the car drifting, the brake lights two cars up, the gap that is about to close, and so they are already responding before the danger arrives. They bought their time not with speed but with distance and attention. That is a skill you can build. So practice looking farther up the road than feels natural, past the car right in front of you to what is happening well ahead. Give yourself more following distance so you have more time to use. You are not trying to react faster in the last second. You are trying to see sooner, so you never need the last second at all.
