How do I stay both firm and humane in a hard job?

You have found the balance the work demands and few achieve: firm enough to keep order, humane enough that the order still respects the people inside it. You refuse to let the job turn you cruel or numb, and holding both at once, day after day, is a real accomplishment. You have kept yourself intact in a place designed to wear that down. Guard it, and you keep both your decency and your effectiveness.
