How do I stop redoing my team's work because it isn't up to my standard?
You regularly redo or heavily rework what others hand in, because it does not meet the standard you hold. The work does come out polished. But look at the fuller cost: you are drowning in hours you did not need to spend, and your people are never quite learning to reach the bar themselves, because you keep reaching it for them. When you quietly fix someone's work instead of showing them what was missing, you rob them of the one thing that would make them better, which is honest feedback and a real chance to improve. You also cast yourself as the only person who can meet the standard, which guarantees you can never put the work down. High standards are good. Holding them alone, in secret, by redoing everything, is a trap. So shift from redoing to teaching, one piece at a time. The next time work comes back below your bar, instead of fixing it yourself, tell the person specifically what is off and let them redo it. It is slower once and faster forever, because they climb toward the standard and you get your hours back. Let their work be theirs, even imperfectly, and coach it upward over time.
