How do I take care of myself when my job is caring for everyone else at work?
You spend your days making sure everyone else's experience of work is good. Their wellbeing, their fairness, their sense of being cared for. And your own gets none of that care, because there is no people ops person for the people ops lead. You pour out what no one pours back. This is the quiet trap of the caretaking roles. You know exactly what a healthy work life looks like, and you protect it for everyone but yourself. Start treating yourself as one of the people you serve. The boundaries you would defend for an employee, defend for you. The rest you would insist they take, take it. You cannot give from an empty cup, and the whole organization leans on yours. That is not a reason to push harder; it is a reason to refill. Ask for what you need, out loud, the way you would want any employee to. Your own experience of work matters, and it is the one you keep forgetting.
