How do I teach nursing skills I do on instinct?

You are good at this because you stopped thinking about every step long ago. Now they want you to teach it, and suddenly you cannot find the words for what your hands just know. That is normal. Skill hides itself once it becomes second nature. The problem is not that you don't know. It is that you know it too well. Start by slowing yourself down. The next time you do the thing that feels automatic, notice what you actually check, what you look for, what tells you something is off. Say it out loud. Those small signals are the real lesson, and new grads cannot see them yet. You don't have to be a perfect teacher. You have to be honest and present. Let them watch, then let them try while you stand close. Explain your thinking as you go, even the parts that feel obvious. Teaching one small thing clearly is enough. The rest comes with time, for them and for you.
