How do I turn a big vision into a real plan?
You can plan longer-term now, and hold a real vision of where things should go. But connecting that vision to an actual roadmap is hard, and that is the gap where most big ideas quietly die. A vision lives at the level of where we want to be. A roadmap lives at the level of what we do next quarter, and the space between them can feel like a leap no one quite knows how to make.\nThe way across is to work backward, not forward. Instead of pushing from today toward the far-off vision, stand at the vision and ask what had to be true just before it, and just before that, stepping back toward the present. Big goals connect to real work through a chain of milestones, each one a smaller state of done that leads to the next. The roadmap is not a straight guess from here. It is that chain of necessary steps, traced back until it reaches something you can start on Monday.\nTake your vision and name just the three or four big milestones that must happen along the way, in order. Do not plan every detail. Then take only the first milestone and break it into concrete near-term work. That is your roadmap's starting stretch. You do not need the whole path mapped perfectly, only enough of the chain to connect the far vision to a real first move.
