How do I write a resignation letter?

A resignation letter is short, plain, and kind — it's not the place to vent. Its whole job is to say you're leaving, when your last day is, and to leave the door open. Three sentences can do it. Write something like: 'I'm writing to let you know I'm resigning from my role, with my last day on [date]. Thank you for the opportunity and support during my time here. I'm glad to help make the transition smooth.' That's it. Keep any frustration out — this letter goes in a file and outlives your mood. Say the warmer or harder things in person, not in the official letter. You never know when you'll cross paths with these people again, so leave on terms you'd be glad to be remembered by. A clean exit is worth more than a satisfying one.
