Sensing how much this matters is the first qualification for handling it well. No one comes to this fully ready, because the ground is new for everyone. What you need is not to already know every answer, but to build a way of deciding you can trust. That means getting clear on your values, learning fast from people who understand the technical and the human sides, and being willing to say plainly when something is uncertain. Depth here is built through steady judgment over time, not conjured on day one. Start by naming the few principles you want to guide every AI decision, in plain language, before the hard cases arrive. Then find two or three people, technical and ethical, whose counsel you can lean on. You do not have to hold this alone or have it all figured out. You have to carry it thoughtfully, one decision at a time, and let your judgment grow into the role. That is enough to begin.
