Is AI going to replace game designers who make assets and levels?
AI can now spin up assets, levels, even NPC dialogue, and you catch yourself either waving it off or bracing against it. Both reactions come from the same place, you love this craft and do not want it taken. But dismissing or dreading it are both ways of not looking at it clearly. Look clearly and you will see what it does and does not do. It generates content. It does not know why a level is fun, when a line of dialogue lands, how a whole game should feel in someone's hands. It makes pieces. Design is the vision that decides which pieces matter and how they fit into something a person will love. That vision is the job. The designers who thrive will not be the ones who out-produce the AI. They will be the ones who use it to explore faster while holding the vision it lacks. Try it on one small thing this week, just to see its edges. Knowing what it cannot do is how you stop fearing it.
