Is doing everything to keep someone alive always right?
You can keep a body going long after the person inside seems ready to let go. And you have started to feel the difference between what you are able to do and what is truly good for someone. That unease is not confusion. It is your conscience doing exactly its job. Doing everything and doing right are not the same, and you already know it, or the question would not haunt you. Sometimes the kindest care is not one more intervention but comfort, dignity, and honesty about what is happening. Keeping a heart beating is not the same as honoring a life. You don't decide these things alone, and you shouldn't. But your voice belongs in the room. When you sense the line, say what you see, gently and clearly, to families and to the team. Ask what this person would want, not just what the machines can do. That question, spoken out loud, is often the most caring thing anyone offers.
