Is optimizing people's attention how I want to spend my talent?
You are good at moving the numbers, and lately a quieter question has started to sit beside the wins: is capturing people's attention really where you want your talent to go? That you are even asking says something good about you. It means your conscience is still awake, and that is worth listening to. There is no shame in doing this work, and there is no shame in outgrowing it either. The skills you have built, understanding people, testing ideas, moving results, are valuable in many places, not just the ones that leave you uneasy. The question is not whether you are good at it. You clearly are. The question is what you want that skill pointed at. You do not have to blow up your life to answer. Start by noticing which projects leave you proud and which leave you a little hollow. Look for work, even a small side of it, where the same talent serves something you believe in, a cause, a product you respect, people you actually help. Let the answer come from evidence, not a single restless night. Begin by naming one kind of work you would feel good doing, and take one step toward it.
