My team has no rituals or shared traditions. Does that actually matter?
It matters more than it seems. Without shared rituals, a team is just a set of people doing work that happens to sit near each other. Rituals are the small repeated things that turn a group into an us, a way of marking wins, a shared joke or phrase, a habit everyone knows. Without them, there is nothing holding people together beyond the tasks. You do not need anything grand or forced. Rituals that feel like corporate theatre do the opposite of what you want. What builds belonging is small, genuine, and repeated. A moment at the start of the week, a way you mark a finished project, a phrase that becomes yours. These sound minor, but they are the threads that make people feel part of something. Start one small thing and keep it. Maybe you close each week by naming one win, or you mark the end of a hard project together in some simple way. Pick one, do it every time, and let it become a fixture. Belonging is not built in a day off-site. It is built by the same small moment, repeated until it means something.
