No one thanks me for slowing down to do it right

You know the code cold, and that knowledge makes you the one who says wait, this is not right, when everyone else wants to push ahead. So you become the brake, the one who slows the job, and nobody thanks a brake. That grind is real. Being the conscience of a crew is a lonely job. But think about what your slowing down actually buys. The work stands. It passes. It does not fail on someone later. The thanks you do not get is the disaster that never happened, and you rarely get credit for the fire that did not start. That does not make the good less real. You will not win the crew's applause, so do not measure yourself by it. Measure yourself by the standard you would want in the walls of your own home. And when you can, explain the why, not just the no. People resent a brake; they respect a reason.
