How do I manage the loneliness and self-doubt that comes with freelance writing work?
Freelancing takes away support you never noticed you had: coworkers, feedback, the simple act of showing up somewhere. And doubt grows loud in the quiet. Three things help. First, build a real writing community, not just followers online. One or two writers you trust, who read your work while you read theirs. Second, track what actually happens, not how you feel. A rejection stings, but it's just information. One editor saying no tells you about that piece and that editor. It doesn't tell you your worth. Third, know that doubt itself isn't the enemy. It keeps you honest. The danger is being alone with it. When you're by yourself and scared, the voice in your head takes over. When you're connected to others, you remember they've felt this too and kept going. You don't need to feel confident before you write. You just need to write anyway, and stay close to the people who remind you why the work matters. The loneliness is the price of working on your own terms. It doesn't have to mean being isolated.
