What can a librarian offer when AI answers everything?

For years, people came to you with their questions, and you were the one who knew where to look. Now the machine answers first. It makes sense to wonder what is left for you when the finding is done by something else. But answering a question was never the whole of your work. You judge whether a source can be trusted. You help someone who does not even know how to name what they need. You protect the quiet, open space where anyone can learn. A machine does none of that. It retrieves; you guide. So let the AI have the easy lookups. Spend that freed time on the work only a person does: sit with one patron this week and help them think through a real problem, not just find a fact. That is where a librarian has always been irreplaceable.
