What if I chose a safe career and feel dead in it?
Every big career choice you made pointed the same way, toward security. The stable company, the clear ladder, the reliable paycheck. And it worked. You got the security you aimed for. But you have found that you are not really alive in the work, and that the cost of all that safety was hidden until now. That is a quiet, disorienting kind of ache. Give yourself some credit before you grieve. You were not foolish to choose security. It probably protected people you love and gave you real ground to stand on. But safety optimised too hard becomes its own cage, because a life needs more than the absence of risk. It needs something that makes you feel awake. You have simply arrived at the edge of what security alone can give. You do not have to burn down the stable life to feel alive again. Start by finding one place, inside or outside your work, where you can take a small real risk, learn something, build something, say yes to something that scares you a little. Aliveness returns through those doors. You are not abandoning security. You are adding back the thing it quietly cost you.
