What if I don't want to make partner after all?
Everyone assumes you are climbing toward partner, and the path is right there. But the closer you get, the less you actually want it. That is a confusing place to stand, the goal you were supposed to chase is turning out not to be yours. It is worth asking whose dream this was. A lot of us inherit a ladder without ever choosing to climb it, and we only notice near the top that we do not want the view. Not wanting partner is not failure. It might be the first honest thing you have known about your own life in a while. Give yourself room to look at it plainly, away from everyone's expectations. What would you build if no one assumed anything? You do not have to decide today, and you do not owe anyone the path they pictured for you. Follow the quiet no. It usually knows something the noise does not.
