What if my kids have learned not to interrupt my work?
Your children have learned not to interrupt you when you are working, even at home, even in the evenings. You never taught them that rule. They worked it out by watching, and that is exactly why it troubles you. They read where they stand in the order of your attention, and they adjusted themselves around it. Do not turn this into a verdict that you are a bad parent, because that guilt just pulls you further into your head and away from them. Read it instead as information, offered gently by the people who love you most. They are not angry. They simply learned a pattern, and patterns can be relearned. What children notice, they can also notice changing. Start with one protected window that belongs to them completely — no phone, no screen, no half-attention. Tell them plainly that this time is theirs and mean it. It does not have to be long. Children measure love in the moments you are fully there, and even one reliable pocket of that begins to teach them a new place in the order.
