What if my side project is my real calling?

Pay attention to what lights you up, because it is trying to tell you something. The side project pulls at you, energizes you, matters to you, while the main career mostly drains you. And yet you have arranged your life so that the thing that comes alive in you only gets the scraps of time the real job leaves behind. That is worth noticing honestly. This does not mean you should quit tomorrow, and the fear of that leap is probably part of why you keep the calling small and safe. But something you treat as an afterthought can never grow into what it might be. By keeping it in the margins, you guarantee it stays a hobby, which may be exactly what protects you from finding out how real it could become. Give it a little more than the margins. This week, put one genuine, protected block of time toward the side project, not what is left over, but time you set aside on purpose.
