What is real understanding worth when I'm training people?

You are meant to help people learn, and you have started asking a deeper question: what is real understanding actually worth? That question is a sign you are becoming more than a deliverer of content. You are starting to care about what happens inside the people in front of you. Real understanding is worth a great deal, because it is the only kind that lasts. Information that is merely received fades by the next week. Understanding that is truly built changes how a person thinks and works, and it keeps paying off long after the session ends. You are not filling time. When you do it well, you are changing how someone sees their work. Let that raise your aim. In your next session, pick one idea that matters and teach it for real, until people can use it, explain it, carry it out the door, rather than just recognizing it on a slide. Understanding is worth the extra effort. It is, in fact, the only thing you are really there to give.
