Where is the meaning in slow, unremarkable work?

Most of your days are small and unremarkable, and you are asking a real question: where does the meaning actually live in that. It is a good question, and it deserves better than the easy answer that someday it will all be worth it. Someday is not guaranteed. So the meaning has to be findable now, or it is not there at all. Look at where it actually is. It is in doing the thing right when no one would know if you cut the corner. It is in adding one true, small piece to what people understand. Big remarkable moments are rare in any life. Nearly everything worth having is built from unremarkable days done with care. Try changing what you look at. Instead of measuring today against a breakthrough, measure it against a sloppy version of itself. Did you do it honestly and well? Then it had meaning, the ordinary kind that most real things are made of. That is not a consolation prize. That is where meaning mostly lives.
