Why am I so worn out from caring for people all day?
You have a real gift. You can make anyone feel seen and cared for, and people leave your chair lighter than they came. But holding all of that, every insecurity someone hands you, every day, is its own kind of labor. Of course you are worn. Care is work, even when it looks like ease. You are not tired because you are doing it wrong. You are tired because you are doing it well, and giving without pause empties anyone. The trouble is you have learned to hold others so smoothly that no one thinks to hold you. Start by giving yourself a little of what you give away. At the end of a shift, do one small thing that fills you rather than drains you, even five quiet minutes that belong only to you. You spend your day tending others. You are allowed to be tended too.
