Why can't I disconnect from work on vacation?

You are away, but you are not really away. You check in, you scan messages, you keep one foot at your desk. The body is on the beach and the mind is still in the office. That is not rest, and part of you knows it. The habit of checking feels like control, but it runs you instead of the other way around. The work will be there when you return, the same as always. Nothing you refresh on your phone changes while you are gone. What changes is you, worn a little thinner each time you refuse to set it down. Start with one clear boundary you can actually keep. Pick a window each day, an hour maybe, where the phone is in another room. Not the whole trip at once, just that hour. Prove to yourself the world holds together without you watching. It will, and so will you.
