Why do I bury myself in work to avoid team conflict?

When tension rises on the team, you fill your calendar. Meetings, tasks, anything that gives you an honest-sounding reason not to sit down and face it. The busyness feels responsible, but you know what it really is. It is avoidance wearing the costume of hard work. The trouble is that conflict does not wait quietly while you are busy. It grows. What could have been a short, awkward conversation becomes a deeper rift, because the thing everyone can see is the thing no one will name. Your busyness does not protect the team. It just lets the problem set like concrete. The way through is smaller than your dread of it. Pick the one conversation you have been avoiding and have it this week, plainly and kindly. Name what you see, ask what they see, and stay in the room. Facing conflict early is uncomfortable for an hour. Avoiding it is uncomfortable for months.
