Why do I cut safety corners when the pace is too fast?
You know the rules. You are not careless. You cut corners because the numbers demand it, and everyone around you does the same. That is not a personal failing so much as a trap the system builds. When cutting a corner is the only way to hit the rate, the rule and the reality pull in opposite directions. Still, your body is the one that pays if it goes wrong, not the rate sheet. The habit feels harmless because most of the time nothing happens. But most of the time is not all of the time. The corner you skip today is the one you will think about if a bad day comes. You may not be able to fix the pace. But you can pick one corner you will not cut, no matter what, and hold that line. Choose the one most likely to hurt someone. Protect that one every shift. It is a small act of control in a place that gives you little, and it is yours to keep.
