Why do I feel more alone the more successful I become?

You reached what you worked for, and it came with a strange loneliness. People treat you with more deference and more distance, making assumptions about who you must be now. You have the success, and inside it you feel further from others than you expected. That ache is real, and it surprises almost everyone who arrives here. Success changes how you look to people before it changes anything inside you. They respond to the title and the story, not the person, so a wall goes up that you did not build. It is not that people like you less. It is that they see you less clearly, and that can feel just as lonely. You cannot control how others see the role, but you can keep some relationships where the role is set down. Reach toward the people who knew you before, or the few who treat you plainly, and let yourself be ordinary with them. Ask a real question, admit a real doubt. The person under the success is still there and still worth knowing. Do not let the distance convince you otherwise.
