Why do I feel out of place after leaving the military?
You spent years in a world with its own language, its own weight, its own sense of what matters. Then you stepped into a place that does not know any of it. Of course you feel unseen. You are not broken and you are not weak. You are between two worlds, and that gap is real. The civilian world will not automatically understand what you carried, and waiting for it to is a slow kind of pain. What helps more is finding the few people who do get it, and slowly teaching the ones who want to learn. You do not owe everyone the full story. You just need a handful who see you clearly. Start with one connection this week. Reach out to one other veteran, or one person who has genuinely asked about your service. Say one true thing about what it was like. Being seen begins small, one honest conversation at a time. You do not have to feel at home everywhere. You just have to build a few places that fit.
