Why do I keep asking people until I hear what I want?

You call it getting perspective, and it wears that costume well. But look at what you actually do: when feedback lands that you do not like, you go from person to person until someone finally tells you the comfortable thing, and then you stop. You are not gathering views. You are shopping for the one answer that lets you off the hook, and discarding all the rest. The trouble is that the answer you went hunting for is usually the one you least needed to hear. The first feedback stung precisely because it touched something true. By overruling it with a vote you rigged, you protect your comfort and lose the lesson. You end up confirmed and unchanged, which is exactly the opposite of perspective. Next time you catch yourself reaching for a second, third, fourth opinion, stop and ask, am I seeking information or seeking permission. If it is permission, go back to the first hard feedback and sit with it instead. The answer you did not want is often the one worth keeping.
