Why do I only see the flaws in my finished work?
You finish something and where others see an accomplishment, you see a list of defects. The satisfaction never comes. It is a tiring way to work, because nothing you complete ever gets to count as good. Part of this is skill: you can see the gap between what you made and what you imagined, and that gap always looks like failure up close. But the flaws are not the whole truth. They are just the parts easiest for a trained eye to spot. The good is there too; you have simply stopped letting yourself look at it. When you finish your next thing, make yourself name three things that work before you name a single flaw. Say them out loud or write them down. It will feel forced at first. Do it anyway. You are training your eye to see the whole picture, not just the cracks.
