Why does my daily work feel disconnected from the mission?

You believe in the mission. That belief is genuine. But your actual days, the tasks, the meetings, the small grind of it, feel completely cut off from that larger purpose. You know the work is supposed to serve something you care about. You just cannot feel the thread connecting the two anymore. This disconnect is common in any organisation big enough to have a mission and a to-do list, because the link between the daily task and the grand purpose is usually long, and it is easy to lose sight of it in the weeds. That does not mean the thread is not there. It often means no one has bothered to trace it lately, and the tracing is something you can do for yourself. Take one ordinary task from your week and follow it outward, who does it help, what would break if it were not done, how does it, however indirectly, serve the thing you believe in. Sometimes the answer reconnects you and the work feels different. Sometimes you find the task genuinely serves nothing, and that is worth knowing too, because then you can question whether it should exist. Either way, you stop drifting. You start seeing your days and the mission as one thing again, or you find the honest gaps.
