Why does my successful career feel empty?

You built the career everyone said to want, and the reward you were promised did not show up. That is a disorienting feeling, and it is far more common than you think among people at your level. You did not fail. You measured the wrong thing and hit the target exactly. A career can be objectively good and personally empty at the same time. Pay and status are real, but they were never going to fill you, because they answer the question am I doing well and not the question does this matter to me. Those are different questions, and you have been answering only the first for a long time. You cannot re-optimise a whole life in a weekend, so do not try. Pick one part of your work that still means something and give it more of your real attention this month. Let the number on the scoreboard matter a little less. The satisfaction you are waiting for comes from meaning, not from more.
