Why does my team only agree with me?
Look at your own reactions before you look at your team. When someone agrees, you warm to them. When someone pushes back, you cool. You may never say a word about it, but people read warmth and coldness instantly, and they adjust. You have trained your team to agree without ever issuing an order. Your face did it for you. This feels comfortable and it is quietly dangerous. A team that only agrees cannot protect you from your own blind spots. The disagreement you find mildly annoying is often the exact information you most need. By rewarding agreement, you have made yourself the least-informed person in the room. Start by noticing your reaction, then override it out loud. When someone challenges you, thank them for it, visibly, and mean it: that is exactly the kind of pushback I need. Reward the honesty a few times, plainly, and people will slowly believe it is safe to give you the truth.
