Why does no one notice how reliable I am at work?

Reliability is invisible by design. When you do it right, nothing happens, no alarm, no story, no thank-you. The very perfection of your work is what makes it disappear. That is a lonely place to stand, and the resentment makes sense. But notice what your reliability actually is: hundreds of people trusting a result they will never trace back to you, and being safe because of it. That is a quiet kind of power. It is not seen the way loud work is seen, yet it holds up things that matter more than applause. Two things can help. First, let your own knowing be enough more often; you do not need a witness to be excellent. Second, if recognition matters, make your reliability visible by naming it, keep a simple record of your error rate and show it at review time. Let the number speak where modesty has kept you quiet.
