Why is early childhood teaching so undervalued?

You can nurture almost any young child's growth, and you grieve how little the world values that work, how the most foundational teaching there is gets the least respect and pay. That grief is justified. You are shaping human beings at the age it matters most, and being treated as a babysitter for it is a real wound. Do not let the world's blindness become your own. What you do in these early years sets a foundation everything else is built on. The child who feels safe and curious with you carries that forward for life. That is among the most important work there is, whatever the culture fails to see. Hold your own sense of its worth, because you may not get it from outside. Find others who understand, other early educators, and remind each other what the work really is. And when you can, tell the world plainly: this is not minding children, it is building people. Your knowing is worth protecting even when the respect is late in coming.
