Where do you have knowledge or relationships that give you credibility? Your responsibility isn't to fight every battle; it's to tend carefully to the ones where you're actually positioned to matter. That might be gender equity in your field, or economic policy, or how your local government treats houseless people. What you're looking for is the intersection of three things: you care about it, you understand it reasonably well, and you have some actual capacity to influence it—even if that's just being a more informed voter or a better colleague. The examined political life doesn't require you to be everywhere. It requires you to be honest about where you actually stand.
