How do I grieve a relationship ending while also feeling relief?
This is the thing nobody tells you: you can lose something good and still be glad it's gone. Mirabai's bhakti wasn't about happiness. It was about truth. And truth often contains contradictions. You might miss the person, miss the life you built, miss who you were in that relationship—and simultaneously feel your chest opening because you can finally breathe. Both things are real. Grief isn't linear. It's not: sadness, then acceptance, then fine. It's: sadness and relief in the same breath. Missing someone while being certain you made the right choice. That's not confusion. That's maturity. The examined heart doesn't demand that you feel one thing. It asks you to feel what's actually there. Let yourself be sad about the loss without translating it into 'I made a mistake.' Cry about the ending. Also notice where you're lighter. Write about both. Talk about both. The freedom you're feeling isn't negating the love that was real. They can coexist. What matters is that you're not using relief to bypass the grief, or grief to convince yourself you should go back. Feel the full weight of it. That's how you actually move through it.
