Should I choose love or ambition when I have to pick between them?
The question itself might be the trap. Mirabai didn't choose one over the other—her ambition *was* her love, and her love fueled her ambition. She devoted herself completely to what mattered, and yes, that cost her a conventional life. But the cost of staying small to keep someone comfortable? That's heavier. Here's what I've learned: when you feel forced to choose, something's already broken. Either you're with someone who can't hold your fullness, or you're not actually committed to what you say you want. Real ambition doesn't whisper promises—it burns. Real love doesn't ask you to dim that fire. The people worth loving will be lit by it, not threatened. That said, ambition without love—without connection, without the willingness to be vulnerable—hardens into something lonely. And love without growth becomes a cage. The examined life means asking: What am I actually choosing here? Am I running toward something, or away? Am I honoring both my hunger and my heart, or sacrificing one to prove something to the world?
