How do I know if I'm staying in a relationship out of fear instead of love?
Mirabai knew the difference between devotion and duty. She felt it in her body—the opening versus the closing. When you're moving from fear, there's a tightness. You're managing, protecting, negotiating with yourself about whether you should leave. When you're in genuine love, even love that's hard, there's a kind of surrender. Not weakness. Surrender to reality as it actually is. Start here: Notice what you do when conflict arrives. Do you disappear into caretaking? Do you shrink your own needs? Do you stay because you're terrified of being alone, or because you've genuinely chosen this person, even knowing they're flawed? Fear keeps you small and performing. Love keeps you present and honest, even when it hurts. The examined heart asks: What would I choose if I weren't afraid? Not if I weren't hurt, or tired, or disappointed. But if fear wasn't in the room. Sit with that question. Not to force an answer, but to feel what your body knows. That knowing is the beginning.
