Why do powerful people keep taking more when they already have enough?
Because 'enough' is not actually a financial number for them—it's a social one. Once you have security, the next thing you chase is position. Who sees you? Who defers to you? Who has to ask permission? That becomes the real hunger. I watched this in my own time: a person with ten farms doesn't need fifteen because of hunger. They need fifteen because the neighbor has fourteen and that feels like a threat to their status. This is where reason has to intervene. You can choose differently. You can look at what you control and ask: am I using this to build something that matters, or am I using it to prove something to people who don't actually care? The second path is endless. There's no finish line where you finally have enough status. But the first path—building institutions, knowledge, systems that dignify people—that has a real endpoint. You can finish it. You can look at it and know it's complete. That's not restraint. That's just better math. More resources chasing status is a losing game. Resources directed toward something durable? That's where actual power lives.
