Confidence in creative work is not certainty of outcome but familiarity with the interior geography of making — knowing what it feels like when the work is finding its form, even when no one else can see it yet. Different traditions have named this differently: the swordsmith's knowing hand, the griot's relationship to the story already in the air, the court poet's practiced ear for the phrase that will last. Across all of them, confidence is earned through repetition that has broken and remade the maker.
