Lineage and Individuation

Sor Juana inherited Spanish intellectual traditions, Catholic theology, Indigenous Mexican culture, and the specific legacy of convent learning. Rather than choosing one or denying her inheritance, she asserted her right to develop her own thought within and sometimes against these lineages.
