Radical Questioning as Religious Practice

Sor Juana's theology embraced rigorous questioning—examining Church doctrine, natural philosophy, and human nature with unflinching intellectual honesty. She modeled questioning not as rebellion but as devotion: the deepest respect for truth required asking hard questions. For Authenticity across traditions, radical questioning becomes a bridge-building practice. When we genuinely ask 'What is true here?' about our inherited beliefs and other worldviews, we move beyond surface agreement toward authentic integration. This requires the courage to sit with contradictions, the humility to admit ignorance, and the faith that truth can withstand scrutiny. Sor Juana demonstrated that a woman could love God, the Church, and intellectual freedom simultaneously by treating each with serious questions. In practice, this means creating cultures—in families, communities, organizations—where asking difficult questions about tradition strengthens rather than weakens belonging.
